Phillies and Codan Broadcast keep the baseball fans happy
|
The Philadelphia Phillies baseball team’s games at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia are attended by as many as 45,000 fans. They are also broadcast to countless fans via the Internet and television stations. Codan Broadcast products play a vital role in the Phillies broadcasting operations feeding the large screens at the stadium and the on air feed. For the last 5 years Phillies have confidently relied on continually flawless operation of Codan Broadcast’s equipment, which constitute an integral part of the stadium’s production system. Codan Broadcast’s products proved to be irreplaceable in 2004 when the Phillies moved to a new stadium. A crucial factor in making that move successful was the creation of a new broadcast facility that needed to be flexible, reliable and easy to control. The flexibility and small physical size of Codan Broadcast’s equipment made it a perfect fit for the Phillies new facility, and with no additional costs they were ready for use in the new location. In the early days of new stadium’s operation, Codan Broadcast’s equipment proved superiority of its technology many times. “Codan Broadcast’s system has taken much power abuse from mains failures, mains testing and lightning strikes to the building,” explained Dave Abramson, Phillies Chief Engineer. “Codan Broadcast products just keep on going and always are up to any challenge.” A key component of the Phillies’ broadcasting operations is their presentation on the big screens at the stadium. 27 people working behind the scenes at every game rely on the Codan Broadcast routing system to make sure that the presentation is always first class. “Codan Broadcast’s router acts also as an emergency switcher,“ noted the Phillies’ Chief Engineer. “As we built the facility, we had our integrator add our Philips instant replay screen as a destination, bypassing the entire control room. In effect, this router becomes an emergency switcher should anything go wrong upstream. No prizes for guessing I’ve configured the system to that no one can switch to this output accidentally!” Codan Broadcast routing switchers are routinely used in the most demanding applications – in both on- and off-air applications. The very benefits Dave Abramson obtained at the Phillies aren’t luck! Solid mechanical construction gives rigidity, high efficiency power supplies and the careful selection of internal connectors are just some of the important features our engineers consider when designing reliability into the product. Regardless of where the products are shipped in the world, and for what application, our 3-year no-nonsense warranty goes with them. “It’s just critical”, say Charles Nesbitt, Codan Broadcast’s General Manager – Operations. “We don’t expect our customers to put up with poor quality or reliability. But delivering high quality products year after year starts with the design engineer’s pencil, and with more than 20 years of router design experience we’ve learned an awful lot along the way. We’re quietly confident that our products are as reliable as anyone in the world can make.” Sporting clubs like the Phillies owe their very existence to their huge number of fans. But the ever-fickle sports fans expect their team to perform and an experience to remember from each game. Codan Broadcast’s reliable equipment means Dave Abramson and his team have one less thing to worry about on game day.
